The first of its kind, foldable mobile is due to be released in the UK and Europe on May 3 with pre-orders opening on April 26.

Journalists who received the phone to review before the public launch has reported the screen started to flicker and turn black before completely fizzling out.

Videos have emerged of the malfunctioning phone showing one half of the glaringly obvious creased screen flashing and blacking out, providing an unwanted disco-light effect.

In one video, the two screen device can be seen with its right-hand screen cutting in and out of the blackness, while its left-hand screen was seemingly undisturbed.

Some users have suffered issues following them removing a protective layer from the 7.3-inch screen.

But others claimed they didnt remove the layer and have still suffered from malfunction issues.

The handset features a warning on its packaging, instructing users not to remove the screens protective layer.

It reads: “The main screen includes a special protective layer.

“Peeling off the protective layer or using any adhesives on the main screen, such as screen protectors or stickers, may cause damage.”

Technology blogger Marques Brownlee uploaded a photo to Twitter yesterday showing only a small section of the layer removed.

He captioned it: “PSA: There's a layer that appears to be a screen protector on the Galaxy Fold's display.

“It's NOT a screen protector. Do NOT remove it.

“I got this far peeling it off before the display spazzed and blacked out.”

Dieter Bohn, the executive editor of technology news site The Verge, says he left that layer on but his screen still broke.

He added that the device seemed to have a defective hinge, causing the screen to become “distorted” with a slight swelling that can be felt when you run your finger over it.
