A 11-year-old boy was left severely disabled after he tried to kill himself because he was bullied in school, a lawsuit from his mother claims.

On February 18, Jamari Black begged his mother, Teirra, to let him stay home from school the next day, claiming he was tired of being picked on by his classmates in Chicago, Illinois.

Afterwards, he tried to hang himself, depriving himself of oxygen for 11 minutes before his mother found him – causing serious brain damage that now prevents him from moving.

Teirra Black recounted her horror to CBS2 and said: I started screaming. Im like “Jamari! I fell to my knees. I said, “What did you do, Jamari?'”

Jon Erickson, the familys lawyer, said Jamari suffered a severe brain injury and will need medical assistance to breath for the rest of his life.

The diagnosis, first of all, is anoxic brain injury. He was deprived of oxygen to the brain for over 11 minutes, which means that the neural cells died, Erickson said.

He also has chronic respiratory failure. Hes breathing through a tube, and hes breathing through a tube because of the criminal indifference of the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), Erickson said, claiming the local school system was to blame.

The lawsuit the Blacks filed against the CPS said that Jamari was tired of bullying by students at Woodson South Elementary School, who he said called him dumb, stupid, and retarded.

Teirra said her son and his sister dreaded going to the school so badly that weekends at home became their only break from the constant stress – for both the children and their mother.

Every time Friday come, I was relived that my children didnt have to go to school to endure what was going on at Woodson, Teirra said.

She said she was attempting to transfer her children to a different school.

Jamari didnt know how to read. Like, some of the basic words like dog and cat, simple words; he couldnt get it. Its not that he didnt want to learn how to get it, its that he couldnt get it no matter how much I tried.

He even cried to me one day. He was like, “Mommy, Im trying. I want to know how to read. I just cant.
