Raheem Sterling has verbally agreed to sign a new five-year contract and will commit the peak years of his career to Manchester City, according to reports.

The 23-year-olds current deal is due to expire next summer and the 23-year-old had been seeking a signifcant rise on his £100,000-a-week salary after playing a prominent role in last seasons record breaking Premier League title winning success.

Sterlings failure to agree terms had reportedly alerted the likes of Real Madrid, but the England international is now said to have agreed new terms which will see his salary tripled to around £300,000-a-week if various bonuses and performance related targets are met.

Sterling has thrived under the management of Pep Guardiola who was keen for the versatile forward to put pen to paper.

Its well known were delighted with him and would like him to continue. My club knows my opinion and we share that. After that it is the club and the agent,” he said back in September.

My feeling is he is more mature than last season and I like it, he added, at the end of last month.

Sometimes its not about statistics. Maybe I am wrong, but he is more mature and believes in himself more than last season.

Our target is to make the players feel like they are better than the previous season.
