Frank Lampard was relieved to get a home tie against wounded Manchester United in the Carabao Cup, after Ole Gunnar Solskjaers team narrowly squirmed through to face Chelsea in the fourth round.

While Lampards men thumped League 2 Grimsby Town 7-1 courtesy of goals from Ross Barkley, Michy Batshuayi, Pedro, Kurt Zouma, Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi, United stuttered against local rivals Rochdale.

Mason Greenwood had given Solskjaers team the lead with 20 minutes of normal time to play but an equaliser from 16-year-old Luke Matheson forced a penalty shoot-out at Old Trafford, with the Premier League side eventually prevailing against the League 1 outfit.

They will need to dramatically improve when they face Lampards men if theyre to continue their journey in the cup competition but they will have to travel to Stamford Bridge to get a result.
