Do you like the idea of a Big Mac and fries winging their way above the traffic on its way to your door?

That vision of the future is a step closer, with the announcement Uber Eats will test drone delivery.

They will start out with McDonalds meals – but people probably wont be seeing the drones themselves.

The way it works is the drones will fly to a designated location, where couriers will pick up the food and take it the rest of the way.

In the future, drones could be instructed to land on top of a parked vehicle located near each delivery location through QR code correspondence, the firm said.

Tests will begin in San Diego next year, ready for a commercial operation from 2023.
