Graeme Souness hailed Fernandinho as the best central midfielder in the Premier League after an all-dominating display against Liverpool.
The diminutive Brazilian was in fabulous form as Manchester City beat their main title rivals to close the gap at the top of the table to just four points and Souness believes he is a cut above anyother centre-mid in the land.
That is quite the claim, with the likes of Paul Pogba and NGolo Kante kicking around on these shores, but the Liverpool hero is in no doubt that Fernandinho is the top dog.
I think the best team won tonight, I think they played better football, Souness told Sky Sports.
Maybe three or four of the best players on the pitch were in the City team.
I thought the centre-halves Stones and Vincent Kompany were outstanding. Little Bernardo Silva in midfield was fabulous.
And of course the central midfield player, Fernandinho.
He is easily the best central midfielder playing in our country right now.
The amount of work he gets through is overlooked by the technique he has as well.
When he wins it, puts a tackle in, he gets his head up and generally makes the best pass thats on offer.
