All four Premier League representatives have booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League – though only one as group winners – and can start looking forward to some mouth-watering ties.

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur sealed their places in dramatic circumstances on Tuesday night, while Manchester United and Manchester City were already assured of their participation in the knockout stages.

The Premier League champions wrapped up top spot in Group F with a win over Hoffenheim, though United had to settle for second place despite Juventus suffering a shock defeat to Young Boys.

A win away to Valencia would have sealed top spot, but a strike from Carlos Soler and a comical own goal from Phil Jones sealed a 2-1 victory for the Spanish side to prevent United from being seeded in next weeks draw.

None of the three Premier League sides can face Manchester City, or the winner of their own group, leaving six teams they can potentially be drawn against. Nearly every runner-up will be hoping to land Porto, while Barcelona and Juventus offer perhaps the sternest tests.

With three Premier League sides going through as runners-up, there are only four teams Manchester City can face and Pep Guardiola will certainly be hoping to avoid Atletico Madrid first and foremost.
